Progress on New Paintings

March 22, 2010

Here are a couple of progress pictures after today’s studio session. Some of these are cloudy because the clear gel is still wet. Cloudy means happy. It means I am happy with them and am embedding them in clear gel for posterity.

I had to make two pictures, because they have to lie flat and I couldn’t get them all into one shot.

At this point, I have four that I consider to be completed, four that are almost there but not dry enough to apply the gel, and the final four are still waiting for me to resolve them. One (the white one) is way behind. It has only gesso and texture so far.

The one on the bottom left has some collage elements. It will be interesting to see how this one works out.

I love watching you work in your series approach in your canvases…the addition to your collage process continues to build energy for the viewers inviting them to take the time to cone closer and investigate your messages or metaphors. Thank you for always being so gracious and generous as you celebrate your artistic journey. Imagine and Live in Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart

I am recovering from my brain procedure…I meant to say come closer and investigate your messages and metaphors. Sorry… I am a mess and the cosmic currents are streaming through my coils…that is quite an image to think about. Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart

What do you mean by clear gel? Is this something you put on when you are finished with a piece? Or do you put in between layers?

Mkayteem, I use mostly Golden self-leveling clear gel. It’s pourable and the consistency of honey. And I use it under, between, and on top of layers of texture. It depends on the piece.

This looks like such a good start. I am enjoying the layout of the progress pictures, so I am sure I will enjoy the finished product.

Exciting stuff! I’m in love with what’s happening on the bottom left of the second pic.

I love getting your comments, so please don't be shy! Your feedback is valued.
