Are You Sitting Down?
If you’re not sitting down, you might want to do that now. I’ve decided to start posting to my blog again, at least on an experimental basis.
For the past year almost, I’ve entertained the thought that art blogs may be a thing of the past. After all, there’s Facebook and Instagram now, and people have acquired new habits of connecting. But this medium has called to me again, because when I want to find content from my artist friends, I still want to read their blogs. So why not provide that same service in return?
For this past year, I’ve been teaching a beginner class for watercolor. Because I’m a watercolor novice myself, I’m using it to get lots of practice and try to solve its mysteries. The medium requires plenty of patience and hours of practice. There are no short cuts.
This is not to say I’m not longing to return to abstracts and collage. I will in time, but am still thoroughly enjoying watercolors. You’ll probably notice in these images a tenacious quality here and there, especially if you’re a watercolorist. But I’m willing to put in the time to get it “right” — which to me means a feeling for the immediacy and luminosity that it demands.
As long as it’s fun, I’ll keep on doing it. Isn’t that what life is for? Have a creative day!

Glad you are back. I’ve left Facebook and hardly post to Instagram. I’ve taken up a new skill, and am enjoying myself with much less pressure. Have a great weekend xx
Thanks for still being here, Myfanwy. Interesting that you’ve more or less ditched social media. I have come close a few times, but haven’t quite been able to cut the cord. Still, feeling a need to shift focus to more art and less pressure, as you say. You inspire me.
I now only do art bits for my own pleasure. Much less stressful (although it didn’t seem to be stressful at the time.) I’m using all my colour knowledge etc and being a ‘real’ granny by producing crocheted blankets for all and sundry. It’s really amusing in my view – I’ve always regarded it as an inferior craft! But I’m now loving it! Never say ‘never’! 😉
It’s great to see you posting again Martha. 🙂 I really look forward to your next post. You are very right that facebook, etc. seems to be grabbing the attention of some but not everyone. 🙂 I think that it’s a generational thing. I’m kinda glad that I grew up without a computer and cell phones weren’t even thought of. Ya ever wonder what life would have been like if we all grew up with a camera in our face, etc.? I can’t help wondering these things. Anyway, I look forward to your next post. 🙂 You’re awesome. 🙂

Angela, you and I go way back, even though we are at least one generation apart! I think art is the universal language that speaks to everyone if we only listen and take time to just sit and observe. I feel a great need to slow down and take it all in more often now.
