Two More Approaches to Monoprinting
After watching the following video from Golden Paints, I think I want to try the Open Acrylics for this process, and for the example shown in the second video as well.
And from artist Flora Doehler at Green Willow Studio a demonstration of monoprinting using paper cutouts. I love the charming prints she has achieved.
You might not have seen my monoprinting demo shown in previous posts. I have a longtime love affair with printmaking. I have longed for an etching press at times, but know that — just like everything else — I would end up using it for a while and then it would eventually become just more studio furniture. Life is too short to do everything we want to do. These low-tech methods are a way to do wonderful prints without a press.
Thank you for posting! I have always considered mono printing an intriguing, independent art form that allows for the implementation of immediate impulses, the incorporation of unusual artifacts and in general a freedom that printing techniques normally will not easily accept.
I love it too, Inger-Kristina! It’s time to play again.
Love that comment – Life is too short to do everything we want to do. Isn’t that just the rub for most of us. 🙂
So true, Deb! And I have to constantly remind myself.
fun!
It is fun, Sandra! I’m getting the urge to print again.
Martha, I have just recently discovered your blog and am loving it. I do love your comment about the etching press becoming studio furniture. It is the story of my life! I have also discovered that I am a mixed media artist, only I’ve been working with one medium at a time over the years. It is time to throw it all together. Thanks for the inspiration you offer to do that. I also thank you for introducing me to Seth and The Altered Page and subsequently to all the artists he is featuring in his new book.
So happy you’re here, Wandajaneece. I try to keep it interesting. As for mixing media, you can open up a whole world of expression for yourself. Just have fun with it. I am really enjoying my Pulse book, which came 2 days ago. It’s so nice to see a lot of artists and their work all in one place.
I love monotypes and monoprints too! They are addictive — in a good way. I’ve been swooning over etching presses as well, but just can’t afford one yet, so instead, I bought a very heavy-weight stainless steel rolling pin and it works just great. Got it on Amazon for around $25. Works like a charm. I’ll be be back to see your new prints. 🙂
Nicole, I have looked at that roller and thought about it more than once. You’ve reminded me once again that maybe it would be a good thing to have. Thanks for that!
