A Trip To The Country

Here is one of a series of digital paintings based on a very muted palette. They seem appropriate now that winter is setting in for a little while.

Today we went on a little road trip, out to my sister’s pioneer village at Bull Skull Hollow.

We took this road . . .

(which is just outside our neighborhood)

and then across the river, and continued down this road

just a few more miles . . .

then a left turn at the 4-way stop, then a right, then two more rights, and we were there.

It turned out my sister couldn’t go with us, but her daughter and granddaughter were with some friends doing some work on the property. It was just a short visit, but I got a few interesting shots. This is a view of a small part of the village, with the General Store in the left foreground.

We stopped for lunch at a country restaurant along the way where I had some beans, coleslaw, fried okra, and a Mexican corn bread muffin. It was cold today, so I had coffee instead of the usual Southern iced tea.

It was nice to get out for a little while. It’s been hard lately for me to just get up and go somewhere. I have everything I could want right here — my studio, my garden (which I check on every day even though things are looking pretty sad,) the dogs, and my kitchen, where something’s always cooking.
