Cardinal’s Reflection

December 30, 2011

Cardinal's Reflection - Collage, 8x8"

The title of this collage came to me after the fact. Yesterday I saw a female cardinal on the rose bush right outside our living room window, and she appeared to be peeking in at us. But of course I immediately figured out that she was looking at her reflection. She flew over to a nearby holly bush and then came right back again to make sure the bird in the window was still there, before flying off to look for food.

These collages look like winter, but it really hasn’t arrived yet this year. We have a couple of cold days and then back to mild temperatures. Very strange weather. My daffodils have been fooled into thinking it’s spring and have poked their shoots up through the soil already.

Because I didn’t get a chance to write a post yesterday, here is a bonus for you — a 15-minute video which accompanied a Joan Miro retrospective at Tate Modern this year. He is one of my favorite artists and I love getting a glimpse of what he was like as a person. It is wonderful. I had the rare privilege of seeing a show of his large scale sculptures a few years ago in Florida. I hope you have time to enjoy this video.

A very happy, peaceful and blessed New Year to you and your family, and a very productive and inspired 2012. I’m looking forward to seeing what you produce in the next 12 months. I don’t know why, but I have a real excitement about this year, more than I have had for some time.

Now, dare I tell you that Tate Modern is one of my very favourite places on earth! I love it there. Sadly, although it’s only a couple of hours away I don’t get to visit as much as I would like. However, I feel a visit ‘coming on’ very soon!

Wow, Myfanwy – how I’d love to go see Tate Modern just once in my life! That would be sublime. I’m excited about the coming year too.

Your collage looks exactly like our weather in the upper Midwest where winter arrived on 01/01/12…and the link to The Tate is wonderful – thank you and Happy New Year

Happy New Year, Catherine! It’s been pretty bitter cold here for a couple of days but will be going back to the unusually warm temps again. Stay warm!
