Another Painting Rework

March 23, 2011

Layers, Acrylic on Cavas, 30 x 30″

If you love this painting, you still have time to make me an offer. Maybe 24 hours. After that, it will be completely reworked. My plan is to do it in the same style as the last one I changed. It will have no identifying marks when I’m done.

Marketing Art Online

I am coming to the conclusion that I want to consolidate my efforts for online studio sales with just one site, and that site is Etsy. I have redoubled my efforts on that site, and I feel that they do just about as good a job as any. My sales on Etsy have doubled, comparing 2010 to 2009. With that in mind, one still always has to market off-site, no matter what the venue is. More than one online venue is just too time consuming if you want to still have time to blog and make art.

Note: If you are an Etsy seller, you can greatly benefit from the new networking features on the site, such as circles and teams.

And speaking of teams, I have joined a couple of teams on Etsy, and accepted a leadership position on the Finding Fine Art team. The main thing that teams do is create treasuries for team members, which greatly enhances your visibility on the site.

Busy today with all kinds of Etsy stuff, so maybe tomorrow I’ll get to attack that painting!

Morning Martha – Congrats on your new position! Interesting to hear your decision about where you’re going to sell. I have a site on Esty, but find it hard to keep it stocked – having to update all the time. Do you have a system you use to keep up or do you just find yourself reposting once a day/month works for you?

Best Wishes on your new endeavor! I hope it brings you lots of success.

Thanks, Jennifer. Being a team leader is time consuming in itself, so that’s another good reason for consolidating things a little bit. As for my shops, I always have new work, or old work that’s come back to me from a gallery, etc. On weeks that I don’t have anything new to put up, I just renew a few things here and there every couple of days. 20 cents is a bargain for gaining new exposure.

I’ve finally become convinced to network more on Etsy now that the site is more like a social network in the real sense. Circles are a real plus, and help one’s chances at even more exposure.

PS – What made you choose to rework this piece? I find it quite lovely the way it is. 🙂

Great question, Jennifer! I didn’t dislike the painting, but that one, along with the previous one of the same dimensions that I painted over, were done at the same time and never fit into any body of work. They were orphans. And that is the only reason. They just sat there in a corner of my studio until I couldn’t take it any more. 😉

I love getting your comments, so please don't be shy! Your feedback is valued.
