“What Remains” – Collage, 10 x 8 on 14 x 11″ paper

Here is a new collage that I did today. You’ll see my weathered papers in it as usual. Getting out into the studio feels nice after our big project last week.

Our Dinner Party Sunday
Here’s the thing. Now that we have downsized our living quarters, we no longer have a dining room, and that is so very OK with me. Our eat-in kitchen is country in feel, and a gourmet dinner is something of a fun challenge. So we hauled out the china, silver and crystal, the candles and flowers, and dimmed the lights. We printed menus for our three guests and pretended it was the most chic restaurant. It was fun, but I still haven’t recovered from the food!

Menu August 29, 2010

Cheese and Fruit Tray with Sangria

Hot Mayonnaise Glazed Scallops

Local Organic Red Butter Crunch Lettuce Salad
with raspberry vinaigrette

Local Black Angus Farm Filet Mignon
over Lobster Herbed Cheese Mashed Potatoes
with a Merlot Reduction

Martha’s Apple Normandy

Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio
Cantina Zaccagnini Red Dry Wine

We made some dishes we’d never done before. Here are Emeril Lagasse’s scallop recipe and Robert Irvine’s filet recipe if you’re interested in trying them. They were both outstanding choices.

The apple cake is something I had searched the internet for over a period of a couple of years. I wanted to duplicate one that we had lost, and this one is going to be it from now on! We baked it in a springform pan. It’s very much like cookie dough with sliced apples inside. Yummy.
