New Collage And Some Comfort Food

August 25, 2010

“Essence” – Collage, Weathered and Painted Papers
8 x 8″ on 14 x 11″ Watercolor Paper

This collage was created using bits of papers from this stash:

plus a piece of the decaying corrugated cardboard.

Today has been windy and dry, but a little cooler with just a foretaste of fall. I’m preparing my fall garden beds for some kale, mustard greens, broccoli, cauliflower, rutabagas, and cabbage. These will like the cooler weather and will do fine as long as I protect them from freezing. I am hoping to experiment with some cold frames for those plus another bed where I plan to put an assortment of lettuces.

Because it’s been so nice outside, I’ve been pretending it’s fall already and have been cooking all day. I put a pot of black beans (dried — no soaking required!) on the back of the stove, set them on a very low heat, and just let them simmer for at least a couple of hours. On another burner I cooked some brown rice very slowly, about an hour. I like to make big batches of things like beans and rice, then freeze portions in bags for a quick reheat. Black beans and rice one night soon!

Mmm, beautiful collage, though the whittered paper pile make me laugh, they look like the trash room at a hotell you know! 😉
