Firsts From the Garden
This is the first gardenia that I’ve cut from the new bush that we planted about a month ago. There are several blooms, so I took one in the house for its incredible fragrance. This little bottle is about 5 inches high.
And this is our first head of bibb lettuce from the garden. We have about a dozen more heads, but now that the weather is warm we will need to consume it fast. It will soon be going to seed. This isn’t a problem because we love salads!
I planted the lettuce from seed some time in March. But here in the Deep South there is very little time for lettuce to mature before the weather gets too hot. This is much better as a fall crop, which I will do.
We were able to enjoy baby lettuce from a variety of seeds that we planted in some containers right outside the kitchen. It was so nice to just use the leaves as needed. I will do that again too.
I have spent a few hours today uploading new collages to my Etsy shop. There are more to go, but listing them is very time consuming so I’ll do a few at a time.
Here’s one of the newest ones. Such fun!
“Random Thoughts” – Collage, 4 x 4″
Mounted on 8 x 10 Archival Paper
Available in my Etsy shop for collage
I can close my eyes and smell the gardenia…my mother’s favorite. The bibb lettuce looks and tastes luscious I am sure…you will have a great summer of organic salads …I know my deer…my sweet dear deer would eat my lettuces before we ever got one salad for our table. Have a great weekend and continue you collages. Imagine and Live in Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
Mary Helen, if we had deer, I think I would just try to have enough to go around! Love their sweet natures. We are going to have a great summer of organic heirloom tomatoes and all manner of other wonderful things!
Gardenias, bibb lettuce AND “Random Thoughts”…It’s all good!
I’ve missed gardenias. Came across one here in FL (where I’m temporarily staying until we get moved to SC) the other day, smelled it (as you do), and I was filled with nostalgia, pleasant memories.
Great job on the lettuce!
Yes, it is “all good” isn’t it, Stephanie? Art and flowers and food. I’m in heaven.
Love that collage.
Glad you like it, Seth. Thanks!
Love gardenias .. I can almost smell it. I have failed so many times in making mine bloom and blossom 😦
Gypsy, this is my first attempt ever, at my advanced age!!! 🙂 We did inherit them at one house we lived in back in the 70s. So I can’t take credit for those.
