Passageways Series, Number Four

April 29, 2010

“Passageways IV” – Collage, 5 x 7″

This is number four of five in the Passageways series. I think I’ll continue with these as studies for larger works. They are helping me to think about ways to go large with this imagery.

This morning I got home from staying overnight with my 95-year-old aunt who had cataract surgery yesterday morning. She did great, and I was just there to make sure she didn’t have any problems post-op. She was thrilled to learn this morning at her follow-up doctor’s appointment that her vision in that eye has improved dramatically.

It was good to get back home to be with my husband and all the furries. My geriatric yellow cat is all over me as I type this. He was deprived of attention for too long!

I hope it’s been an inspiring and creative week for all who are reading this. I can’t wait to spend some more time in the studio.

    Hi Martha,

Glad your aunt made it through her surgery ok and that you are back with your furry babies now. 🙂

I really am enjoying this series of collages! This is very similar to something I have been considering doing. As we’ve said…it has to stew sometimes before it’s ready to come forth. LOL

Thanks for sharing. Really love the colors and patterns in these. 🙂

Yes, Itaya! It does take some time for things to stew on the back burner. I’m so glad I finally started stirring the pot! 🙂

So glad to hear that your aunt’s vision has improved after her op. This is my favourite Passageways so far, what really works for me is the dark contrast, broken up by small lighter elements. I can really see this one done very large, it would look stunning.

So glad you like it, Sandra. Your feedback really helps me to think about these and where they need to go.

Glad to hear the good new on your aunt’s health. I’m liking the collage series your been posting the last week. What kind of glue do you use?

Thanks, Ant! My usual method of gluing the papers down is to brush on clear acrylic gloss medium, first on the surface to receive the papers and then once they’re placed, I brush the whole thing again. I don’t dilute it, because it just causes the paper to wrinkle more.

    Hi Martha,
I really like the lightness of the collage. Very pretty and fresh. ‘The Floral’- theme #30. Think about it.
