Painting Techniques Videos

November 10, 2009

I’ve noticed that I’m behind on watching the excellent series of videos on Golden Paints’ YouTube channel. What a fun way to spend a rainy morning.

I was so inspired and excited after spending a day at a Golden Working Artist Workshop two years ago that I am still having fun with all the things they showed us. If you ever get a chance to attend one of these, I highly recommend them. You will receive small sized samples of the different paints and mediums and a detailed hands-on demonstration of how they can be used.

Disclaimer:  This is not a paid endorsement. I only wish!

Blick Art Videos has a great collection of instructional videos on YouTube as well.

Here is another series of fun and always entertaining art technique videos by Australian artist Gary Reef.

This should keep you busy being inspired today. I hope you enjoy these links.

M — we are so on the same page! i was just thinking about making time to watch those Golden Paint videos! 2 years ago I took a Golden Gel Medium workshop and we made all these sample boards! I can’t find them now…but time to refresh…and i know there are many new products out now! i teach at a big Art Store and recently met their Golden Rep and she’s promising me a shipment of new gel medium products! You really know a lot about them! I realized they discontinued the Garnet Gel (x coarse) and found 2 large jars! Your paint skins are awesome and I just wanna do it all….thanks for bringing up this great resource! you Rock!!!

Cyndy, how do you like the pumice gels? I use the coarse, because why go half way! Plus it’s absorbent when dry, so think of those possibilities! Yep, I wanna do it all too, which is why I need to get a couple of promised projects out of the way. I don’t even have time to watch these new ones right now!

I don’t know where my sample boards are from that class, but I absolutely love Golden’s sample boards that are in the stores and that you can buy — for a price.

Jean, I love acrylics of course because I’m so into texture right now. But they can be watery too!

Thanks so much for sharing these links. I get most of my materials from Blick’s website, but had no idea about their You Tube video channel (duh)! As a working artist in a remote outpost (no lectures, workshops or continuing educational opportunities), instructional videos and art books are a godsend for me.
Great stuff! I’m looking at a Blick video just now…

Stephanie, the Blick one is a new discovery for me too! I haven’t even had a chance to watch them yet. I can see me going on a TV news diet again and watching something actually worthwhile! Enjoy!

I highly recommend those Golden and Gary Reef videos too. I actually bought one of Gary’s instructional videos on Etsy and it’s wonderful. I’ll have to check out the Blick ones. I have a local Blick Art Supply store here and sometimes they have Golden paint samplers free with a purchase.

I love getting your comments, so please don't be shy! Your feedback is valued.
