Urban Influences

Cosmos 8 Sm“Cosmos 8″ – Acrylic on Panel, 16 x 16 x 2”

Does this painting remind you of any of my recent photographs of decaying urban structures? I created this three weeks before going out on my latest photo shoots, and not after. Art imitates life imitates art.

Here are a few pictures I took yesterday. I have just added a new album on my flickr page for these.

I don’t know about you, but these are inspiring me to do more paintings.

They look very like candidates for this month’s painting challenge on the About Painting website! Soft grey, just need to be turned into landscapes.

Interesting process. I like the first photo because I see the marks of the brush over the stucko. I can feel the movement of the painter. I also like the shadows and that these are all in grays. Eliminating color is intensifying the textures. Very interesting.

The limits between photo and painting are disappearing.

    Wow…love “Cosmos 8” !!!!!
The tiny black lines in the strokes and the gray texture variations make for an achromatic masterpiece, kid.
    Wonderful.

Thank you, Jeannie! Wow, a masterpiece? Does that mean I get to quit now? Nope. I’m addicted.
