Goodbye, House

July 29, 2009

Me

Tomorrow is goodbye to our house. Dina says I need to go from room to room and do a little ritual to make sure I gather up all the leftover good energy from all the years of family laughter, pool splashing, holiday dinners, art making, board games, and hours of good late-night conversation. I think I will do that, but will leave behind many good wishes for the new family.

This place has been well loved — the hub for a transient extended family over the years. It’s the only Marshall grandparents’ house that my grandchildren can remember. Some of them are a little sad, but I know they will love visiting us in our new surroundings. Trips are already being planned.

This is also goodbye to my blog friends for a few days. Today is when our cable connection will be gone. Tomorrow we hit the road in two cars — with the kind assistance of my niece — with 3 dogs, 2 cats, and all of their necessities. We will stop overnight halfway there. Today is a rush of final packing and tossing.

It turns out that the animals will be staying at a kennel owned by the daughter of my best friend from high school, right down the street from their new home. They will be in very capable and trusted hands. I can’t wait till the dogs get to run in that big back yard. What a thrill that will be.

A very big thank you to all my loyal blog readers for being here day after day. I promise to always try to keep it fun. So for now, happy creating. We’ll talk soon.

Good luck in the new home, Martha. I know..a little sad and I can empathize. Sometimes it’s good to be so busy you don’t dwell on it.

Martha — Much happiness in your new home! I know from your entries it’s been a long haul. But it is sad to leave the memories behind, too.

Martha many blessings my friend to your as you begin your new adventure. As I am reading your post many memories surface as the last day when my parents sold the house we grew up in. I was the last out the door as I went room to room. Safe travels! xoxo
