A New Collage, Spring Cleanup, and Fish From the Sky

March 16, 2009

“Spirits” – Collage, 5 x 5″

This is just an abstract collage with handmade papers and metallic bits. No photographic elements this time. Still enjoying collage lately, which is truly becoming a permanent part of my creative process, whether it’s for studies for larger works, or art for its own sake.

This weekend, with the help of our grandson and his wife, we worked nonstop sprucing up the yard, getting all the leaves raked and out of here, cleaning in and around the pool, and adding some new plants and mulch. We have a house showing on Wednesday, and it’s a second walk through, so we are pulling out all the stops. It looks nice around here. As I’ve said many times, it looks so nice, I’d love to live here myself.

Fish From the Sky

It’s not an urban legend, folks. Yesterday after taking a break and returning to the back yard to bag leaves, we discovered a fresh, damp, fully-intact, one-pound dead fish in the middle of our back yard, right where we had been working  just a few minutes before. After much discussion among the four of us about where it could have come from (we eliminated the possibility of any intruders or neighbors on any of the four sides of the property) we had to conclude that an osprey must have dropped it during a flyover. It’s quite possible the bird just let it slip because of its weight, or perhaps another bird was trying to steal it in mid flight. Just so you know, these things do happen. Just never to us before.

Your house is beautiful Martha. I would want to live there too.
And as for the fish – how bizarre! I love it 🙂

What is the explanation for a rain of cats and dogs?

    Hi Martha,
What a beautiful house you have – it is very Japanese in style! and very calming to look at.
All I can suggest for the house showing is to put your porch/front door light on if it is slightly overcast, to create more of a welcoming glow?
    Good luck!
I also wanted to say that I sold my Arabella Pronghorn bag that you so kindly featured on your blog a while back. She is a birthday present for a lady who also has a (rescue) house rabbit!
    best wishes,

Oh Annette – congratulations on your sale! A beautiful piece. Thanks for your thoughts. The visit will be at 11 a.m. so should be nice and bright outside. I do feel very calm when I’m here.

Love your house, I too think it is so nice I wouldn’t mind living there! All the best for the walk-through. If you see the Osprey, you could send him over here – I’d love a nice fresh fish dropped from the sky! And as usual I love your art, you just keep these beautiful paintings and collages coming – all those ideas!

Sandra, it isn’t so nice when we’re just “living” here. It’s nice now that we’re putting it on display. That’s what makes me a little wistful for the days when we first moved in and things were all new. We’ve been here 23 years!

Fish from the sky happens here at Dogpatch all the time. And Ms. Eva, the explanation for a rain of cats and dogs, is Bad Luck.

I love this new blend of collage and paint you’re doing!

Cecelia, it’s the only home our grandkids remember our living in, and they are all grown now. Lots of memories here. But we have a spirit of adventure about the next chapter.

I love getting your comments, so please don't be shy! Your feedback is valued.
