Inspired By The Urban Landscape

September 18, 2008

The panels still haven’t come in, and I refuse to get out the paints for a whole other project. Here are just a few of my random shots from the urban landscape.

And here’s a collage from parts of several of them:

I think you can see where my inspiration comes from lately.

Oh, you know I love those pictures and the collage, too.

Glad you like them, Mary. Sometimes I feel like going out and shooting more old rusty city stuff, but all I have to do is scroll through your blog and drool.

I found it interesting to see how you use the urban landscape as inspiration for your abstract paintings. Many photographers create series of work capturing images like these – they are often beautiful in their own right. I haven’t seen someone use them for painting, but it’s a great idea.

Photography is all about finding images while painting is about creating them. Here you are employing both activities in your work, which is suspect stimulates your artistic brain all the more!

Yes, Bob, they inspire me in general ways. I never tire of looking at photographs of aging and decaying surfaces. And you are right, many of them make their own strong statements.

I love getting your comments, so please don't be shy! Your feedback is valued.
