Ready to Relax and Recharge

July 22, 2006

What a nice reminder about attention and energy. I now have the perfect environment for my sunrise meditations. This project wasn’t finished until noon today, but tomorrow morning I will be out there with my dogs, cats and coffee, listening to the birds, squirrels and tree frogs, watching them watch me.

New herbs, added to the chives and the sweet basil, include oregano, thyme, rosemary, dill, both curly and flat leaf parsley, chocolate mint, and curry. I didn’t stop with just herbs, as you can see. In the back curve of the planter, almost invisible right now, is a big, healthy clump of bird of paradise — not the tall “white” variety, but the “orange” one, which grows to around 5 feet. I had a white one in that same spot for a few years, but it burst right through the lanai screen. It was fun while it lasted, and was a terrific haven for my son’s visiting parrot.

Then there are two different heliconias (for aficianados, they are “Andromeda” and “Choconiana”,) which will fill in around the bird of paradise. I will then have to start looking for a new home for my herbs.

What a paradise! I love being around water and miss former pools and, at one time, a lake in my back yard. An artist’s garden is usually a pretty special place. KJ

Martha, your lanai and pool area is a magic spot! I have many fond memories of partys there, the group soaks in the jacuzzi, lining up your paintings and talking about your art while we sipped wine! I’m glad to see this new magical incarnation of the upper deck! I’ll be imagining you out there with the dogs and your coffee!
